So I was thinking last night, how would a military MMO work?
So here is the solution I came up with.
Basics of the idea
This would be a World War 3 MMO. Battles would be fought at hundreds of strategic locations, all over the world.
Each battlefield is different. Destructible environments well add more tactics into the game. Fire bases which act as spawnpoints can be deployed.
Your character
Character creation:
You start out by choosing a faction. Customising your character is the next step, with the same sort of options in Mass Effect 1 & 2. If you haven't played them, here. Once you have done those, you pick your profession. Then you enter the game at your faction's professions training camp.
Professions:
You will have a choice of a wide range of professions, from simple infantry to officer, from mechanized to tank commanders.
There will be a limit in each battlefield for each profession, but if you do badly, your cap goes up. Not by much, but as a helping hand.
Equipment:
You will start out with basic equipment. As you get experience in battles, you gain levels. You earn money in each battlefield, when you win or do well, you get more. And vice versa. With money you upgrade your equipment. Equipment differs between each profession. Say, as a tank commander you can upgrade your tank with better camo, better armour and better shells or buy a new tank/apc. As infantry, you can buy new guns, upgrade your guns and body armour and change your looks.
The Battlefield
Right, I'm going to use World in Conflict to make this easier.
The battlefield.
Now on this battlefield, there are strategic locations. This locations can be fortified to help defend against an enemy counterattack.
The more strategic locations to capture and hold, the enemy will loose reinforcement points faster. Like in the Battlefield series.
If the map is waterfront property, naval players will come into play. Barrages can be ordered and fired by the people in the ships. But beware. The enemy can fire anti ship torps and send helicopters/jets after your ship.
Artillery. Fragile and slow, but damn! They hit hard.
Artillery will be very limited due to the damage they cause. But Artillery players can also take up anti tank and anti air positions.
Your forces will have to capture Firebases to make the game much easier for your allies and yourself.
You will battle for your faction and country using a global command system, similar to Endwar, but much bigger and more through.
Friends can form clans or battalions to make working together much easier.
Medics will be a definite.
Looting, yes. At the start of the game, you face computer enemys. Only at level (say..) 10, you start fighting the big boy's battle.
Weapon sets are a maybe. I don't want people having access to what they haven't chosen at the beginning. You can buy all the other classes later on, which may be a good idea too.
Also maps will be download as you play them. With all the maps, not doing this would make the game take up alot of space. When you finish the game, you have a choice whether to delete it or not.
